Once your specimen is submitted, results are typically processed and available within a few business days. However, processing times may vary. When ready, your results will be delivered in a clear, easy-to-understand report. If any results suggest a potential infection, you’ll receive a call from an independent healthcare coordinator. Independent physicians are also available to answer any questions or discuss your results in detail.

Test Details & What It Measures
A serum iodine test measures the amount of iodine circulating in your blood. While iodine is most commonly tested through urine, serum iodine levels can be used to assess recent iodine intake and evaluate thyroid health, especially if there’s suspicion of abnormal exposure or supplementation. Iodine is critical for the thyroid gland to produce hormones that control metabolism, growth, and energy.
Abnormally high serum iodine may result from excessive supplements or contrast agents used in imaging, while low levels can suggest a deficiency that may lead to hypothyroidism or goiter. Typical serum iodine levels in a healthy individual range from approximately 40 to 90 µg/L, but values may vary based on the lab and timing of recent iodine intake. This test is less commonly used than urinary iodine testing but may be helpful in certain clinical contexts, especially in cases of suspected toxicity or acute imbalance.
