Understanding Adrenal Insufficiency

Support from Health Force One for a balanced, healthy life.

What is Adrenal Insufficiency?

Adrenal insufficiency happens when your adrenal glands don’t make enough important hormones—mainly cortisol, and sometimes aldosterone. These hormones help your body handle stress, control blood pressure, balance salt and fluids, and regulate metabolism.

Types:

  • Primary (Addison’s Disease): Caused by damage to the adrenal glands.
  • Secondary: Caused by problems with the pituitary gland, which tells the adrenal glands what to do.

Common Symptoms:

  • Constant fatigue
  • Low blood pressure or dizziness
  • Nausea, stomach pain, or loss of appetite
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Darkening of the skin (in Addison’s disease)

Emergency Alert – Adrenal Crisis:

Without enough cortisol during stress or illness, the body can go into shock. This is a medical emergency. Always follow your doctor’s guidance on medication adjustments.
