After the Test
Once your specimen is submitted, results are typically processed and available within a few business days. However, processing times may vary. When ready, your results will be delivered in a clear, easy-to-understand report. If any results suggest a potential infection, you’ll receive a call from an independent healthcare coordinator. Independent physicians are also available to answer any questions or discuss your results in detail.

Test Details & What It Measures
A Free T4 test measures the level of thyroxine (T4) in its unbound, active form in your blood. T4 is one of the main hormones produced by the thyroid gland, and it plays a crucial role in regulating your metabolism, energy levels, and growth. Unlike total T4, which includes both bound and free forms of the hormone, the Free T4 test measures only the hormone that is available for your body’s use. This test is often ordered when a thyroid disorder is suspected, particularly in people experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, weight changes, or temperature sensitivity.
Normal Free T4 levels typically range from 0.8 to 2.0 ng/dL, although these values can vary slightly between laboratories. Low Free T4 levels may suggest an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), while high levels can indicate an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). Your healthcare provider may use this test in conjunction with other thyroid tests, such as TSH and Free T3, to get a more complete picture of your thyroid health and determine the best course of treatment if needed.
